

Montoya was recently tabbed as MSR's IMSA endurance driver for next season for the four endurance races, starting with the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona in January. In a way, they'll be teammates again, though across the company. Both expressed interest in returning to open-wheel racing, and recently, Castroneves was tabbed for a six-race Ind圜ar program with Meyer Shank Racing. That program, though, ended after this season, leaving Montoya, Helio Castroneves and others looking for racing work. Montoya raced the next season with Penske in the Indy GP and the 500 before turning his attention back to Roger Penske's three-year sportscar program with Acura, where he and Dane Cameron won the 2019 IMSA DPi title.

He would cap his full-time Ind圜ar career from 2014-16 with Team Penske, finishing fourth, second and eighth in the championship those seasons - including a 2015 Indy 500 victory and a tie for the championship that year with Scott Dixon, who prevailed in a tiebreaker after winning the final race of the year. The other active drive is Fernando Alonso, whoneeds a win at the Indy 500 where he raced in 20, but is unlikely to return in the near-future due to his jump back into F1 with Renault starting in 2021.įrom F1, Montoya then raced seven full seasons in the NASCAR Cup series with Ganassi before a jump back into the world of open-wheel racing.

Currently, Montoya is one of two active drivers in the world one leg away from the Triple Crown of Motorsport, deemed winning the Indy 500, Monaco and the 24 Hours of Le Mans - needing only the latter to become the second driver to complete the feat after Graham Hill.
